A service dog that accompanies a young girl was given the “Best Day Ever” celebration. George, a two-year-old Great Dane, enjoyed his special day by eating treats given to him by humans and playing in the snow without abandon.

George has been taking care of Bella Burton, 11, who is afflicted with Morquio syndrome. Bella’s rare disorder has caused the slowdown of the growth of her bones, thus she’s not able to sit, stand up or walk normally. George helps her do that instead.

“The first time I walked with George, it was amazing,” said Bella via Barkpost. “It was like I haven’t walked in so long, and now I get to do it again.”  It was Barkpost that organized George’s “Best Day Ever” in recognition of his work and his special bond with Bella. They wanted to give the dog the “ultimate day off.” You can watch the video here.

George and Bella celebrated at the Fairmont Hotel and ate at the Walburgers. They also went skiing at the Blue Hills Skills Area and feasted on doggie treats at Polka Dog.

“George deserves the world’s best day because he had changed the life of my daughter,” said Bella’s mom, Rachel, via Inside Edition.

The Burton family acquired George via the Service Dog Project in Massachusetts, where they are volunteers. It took a while for the Burtons to finally decide Bella needed to have servce dog companion, but they finally let it happen after watching the girl around the dogs.

“Once we saw Bella being around those dogs, how she was always in such a great mood and she loved going there, we thought, ‘What are we waiting for?'” the Burtons said via Today. “When she was visiting George and he didn’t want her to leave his kennel, they were like, let’s try them.”

Having George around helped Bella also overcome her condition in amazing ways that she eventually was able to ride a bicycle. “Seeing Bella gain strength is amazing! Is she pain free? No. But she has been doing more things lately then we ever thought. But then again we were told that she will more than likely never ride a 2-wheeler and last year she proved everyone wrong with that!” the statement read on the Bella and George Facebook page, where there is a video of the girl biking, with George following and keeping watch over her.

Do dogs wear braces and can this help? Apparently, a doggie dentist in Spring Lake, Michigan believes that it can. In fact, he fitted his daughter’s six-month-old puppy, Wesley, with its own set of braces.

The dentist, Dr. Jim Moore, is also a veterinarian for the Harborfront Hospital for Animals. He specializes in endodontics and oral surgery for pets, and he’s had his share of treating dogs with canine root canal and pets with fractured jaws.

In Wesley’s case, the Golden Retriever was fitted with braces because his teeth has been misaligned. The dentist explains that the dog braces are not for aesthetics, as Wesley, like many other dogs in need of dental care, has a valid health concern.

“He wasn’t able to fully close his mouth and chew well and he stopped playing with his toys because of the pain and started losing weight because he couldn’t eat,” said Wesley’s owner, Molly. “The good news is, the correction he needed will be brief, perhaps only a few weeks,” the experts at the Harborfront Hospital for Animals’ Facebook page wrote.

Wesley was fitted with the braces on Feb. 19 and it’s due to come off anytime this week. The braces do not seem to bother Wesley one bit as he eats and plays like any regular dog. “He’s a happy little guy,” noted Dr. Moore.

Meanwhile, the timing of Wesley’s braces procedure highlights National Pet Dental Health, which is observed every February. It is a good reminder for pet owners to ensure their dogs’ teeth are also given attention, as it can lead to serious health issues when it’s disregarded.

Like humans, dogs must visit their dentists regularly for cleaning, and in some cases, they may require filing, extraction and teeth adjustment. Dogs can also develop oral problems common to humans, such as gingivitis, halitosis, receding gums and tooth loss, thus their teeth’s health must be evaluated from time to time by veterinary dentist.

A Street Dog’s Life is a short film about a day in the life of a street dog living on the streets of Mumbai. The video shows the difficulties of living on the streets and was created by the organization World For All Animal Care and Adoptions. Although the video is heartbreaking and can be hard to watch, no animals were hurt in the making of this video.

Remember that there are millions of dogs living on the streets and please consider adopting a shelter dog. Shelter dogs know that they have been saved and show it through their undying love. Please support organizations like World for All Animal Care and Adoptions and ASPCA.
